| ERASING MALLARE / This is one in a series of text based performances. The complete deletion of the text Fantazius Mallare: A Mysterious Oath (Ben Hecht, 1932) is an analogue to the narrative itself, a gothic tale of madness and self destruction. The contradictory flow of the video moving forward in time by drifting backward through the words in an act of erasure forms its own kind of generative grammar. For me, the deletion function is one of the exquisite native programs of the computer, acting as a dynamic interface between mathematics and language. |
